Can you connect Nexus 5596 ethernet port(1G) to fiber port(1G) on a C6509E with sup720   ?

I've tried both with 10G-SR sfp+  and SFP-GE-S sfp but the link is not coming up.

Is this allowed or do you have to have 10G module on the C6509E ?

Yes it is possible.

But are you wanting to connect at 10Gb or at 1Gb.

The SFPs type (1 or 10Gb) must match on both sides, as well as the port speed.

Do you have "speed 1000" configured on the Nexus 5500 interface which has SFP-GE-S? You will need this since the interface defaults to 10G.
