WLAN Controller / 1131AG AP

Unanswered Question
Apr 26th, 2012

Hello,

I have just purchased a WLAN 2112 controller and some new AP's.

I have successfully connected the AP with the controller and it gets the profile settings fine.

However after every reboot , Radio does not come up automatically and I have to manually connect and issue the no shutdown command.

Obvioulsy this is no good , especially when I configure another 6 or 7.

Does anyone have idea on this?

Cheers

I have this problem too.

Im still testing so only have the one configured at the moment , and yes if I reboot it , I have to telnet and do "no shutdown" on the radio interfaces.

LBSNEWCASTLE Thu, 04/26/2012 - 04:10

lightweight AP.

I realise it should all be configured via the controller. That is my question really, how do I make sure the radio comes back up after power cycle?

Many thanks

nikhilcherian Thu, 04/26/2012 - 04:12

Have you enabled the telnet on the AP from the controller.

Are you connecting the AP directly to the controller or through the switch

nikhilcherian Thu, 04/26/2012 - 04:18

Hope the switch is able to supply the sufficient power levels and the regulatory domain is same on both the AP and the WLC

LBSNEWCASTLE Thu, 04/26/2012 - 04:24

The AP is not using POE. It has its own power adapter.

And if the regulatory domains were different I dont think the AP would join the Controller in the first place.

LBSNEWCASTLE Thu, 04/26/2012 - 04:59

did that, but still get this.

This looks to be quite fine, by any chance did u try with another AP/power injector

Stephen Rodriguez Thu, 04/26/2012 - 06:15

really dumb question, but you have the 802.11b/g/n and a/n networks enabled globally on the WLC correct?

If you go into Wireles, then on the Right side, choose the 802.11a/n, pick the AP, can you enable/disable the radio from there?

What firmware are you running on the WLC?

Steve

nikhilcherian Thu, 04/26/2012 - 04:02

Can you elaborate when you say you have to do manual no shutdown. Do you console into each lightweight AP and issue the command

Leo Laohoo Sat, 04/28/2012 - 06:06

I'm with Steve here. Sounds like the WLC radio is globally disabled.

Agree,

you need to check radios ststus from WLC and make sure they are up first.

Thanks for the input.

The radio staus is as below, showing admin status enable but operational status DOWN.

I havent tried another AP but will as soon as I get a chance.

Hey: were are you getting this output from? this is not from WLC, is it?

if the admin status is up but the operation status is downt his is high likely a power issue.

Because you are using power supply, not PoE, I think your power supply does not provide enough power to the AP.

Try using PoE or Power Injector instead. if you are using a power injector and not a power supply, try to provide the power injector information in Wireless-> AP name -> Advanced -> Powr Over Ethernet Settings.

Try different power options to make sure it is not a power issue. radios usually go down if there are no enough power. it seems your power source is either faulty or not for this AP model.

You can also check the trap log (from cli "show traplog" or from GUI : Management-> SNMP -> Trap Logs.) there will be trap messages if the issue is related to the power. connect the AP and monitor the traplog if any indication about a power problem.

Thanks everyone and apologies for wasting your time.

I have tried another AP and worked fine, so the first one out of 7 new boxed AP's I picked is faulty.. doh!
