Cisco 3560E - enhanced PoE - Power-Ethernet Trap - Threshold?

Hi,

i have a AIR-LAP1252AG-E-K9 connected to a Catalyst 3560E 24 PD switch.

Version:

Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(52)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

The AP needs 20W for 802.11n, so I raised the default maximum power for this port from 15.4W to 20W.

Command:

"power inline port maximum 20000"

Switch#show power inline police  gigabitEthernet 0/24

Interface Admin  Oper       Admin      Oper       Cutoff Oper

          State  State      Police     Police     Power  Power

--------- ------ ---------- ---------- ---------- ------ -----

Gi0/24    auto   on         none       n/a        n/a    12.2

Switch#show power inline gigabitEthernet 0/24

Interface Admin  Oper       Power   Device              Class Max

                            (Watts)

--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----

Gi0/24    auto   on         20.0    AIR-LAP1252AG-E-K9  3     20.0

Interface  AdminPowerMax   AdminConsumption

             (Watts)           (Watts)

---------- --------------- --------------------

Gi0/24                20.0                 20.0

Switch#show run | i snmp-server enable traps power-ethernet

snmp-server enable traps power-ethernet group 1

snmp-server enable traps power-ethernet police

Everything is working fine, but my management system received a trap:

POWER USAGE ABOVE THRESHOLD

A "pethMainPowerUsageOnNotification" event has occurred, from SwCiscoIOS      device, named Switch.

This notification indicates that the      PSE Threshold Usage Indication is on (the usage power is above the      threshold). At least 500 msec must elapse between notifications being      emitted by the same object instance.

pethMainPseConsumptionPower =      20000

pethMainPseConsumptionPower.pethMainPseGroupIndex = 1

What threshold is defined for the port?

Which command can display the threshold value?

Is it possible to change the value? And if so, how?

If you need any more information don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks in advance!

Manuel

I will try another IOS version.

You have an 3560E.  Try to avoid using the 12.2(52)SE and 12.2(53)SE.  Instead, try 12.2(55)SE5 or 12.2(58)SE2.  If you are frisky, then try 15.0(1)SE2.

In another combination I have the same problem:

Switch: WS-C3560E-48PD

Software: Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(52)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

AP: AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9

POWER USAGE ABOVE THRESHOLD

A "pethMainPowerUsageOnNotification" event has occurred, from SwCiscoIOS      device, named Switch.

This notification indicates that the      PSE Threshold Usage Indication is on (the usage power is above the      threshold). At least 500 msec must elapse between notifications being      emitted by the same object instance.

pethMainPseConsumptionPower =      15400

pethMainPseConsumptionPower.pethMainPseGroupIndex = 1

Switch#show power inline gigabitEthernet 0/47

Interface Admin  Oper       Power   Device              Class Max

                            (Watts)

--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----

Gi0/47    auto   on         15.4    AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9   3     15.4

Interface  AdminPowerMax   AdminConsumption

             (Watts)           (Watts)

---------- --------------- --------------------

Gi0/47                15.4                 15.4

Switch#show power inline police gigabitEthernet 0/47

Interface Admin  Oper       Admin      Oper       Cutoff Oper

          State  State      Police     Police     Power  Power

--------- ------ ---------- ---------- ---------- ------ -----

Gi0/47    auto   on         none       n/a        n/a    10.1

Switch#show run int gi 0/47

Building configuration...

Current configuration : 155 bytes

!

interface GigabitEthernet0/47

description wlan

switchport access vlan XXX

switchport mode access

switchport nonegotiate

spanning-tree portfast

end

I build a Test Lab and tried at first the 12.2(55)SE, but the switch sent one again the trap.

(The 12.2(55)SE5 was not available for me)

But in both 12.2(58)SE1 and 15.0(1)SE2 the switch worked correct - no more Trap.

Thanks.

Thanks for the ratings.  Glad to be of some assistance.
