Hi together!
Would be interesting to hear how you handle downloads, how you keep informed about news and what thoughts/solutions you have.
Does somebody know what happened to the ftp part of ftp.tandberg.com?
It returns a "425 Failed to establish connection." error.
In addition I see that the IP address changed (from tandberg to a cisco, now balder.cisco.com/144.254.51.4)
Even if not all stuff seem to have made it nowadays to the old Tandberg server I preferred it as the download speed was MUCH
better. On the cisco download sites I usually only get 300k/s which I think is quite disappointing, especially for Cisco being a
Network device company. Dont see such a speed limitation on other big internet sites.
Also the web / java based cisco download is less optimal, before I could nicely use a remote session and download
stuff from a linux CLI withing a server subnet. Now I need to download it form a machine with a GUI.
A fixed http-download link for a file would be much more handy.
I wrote me a small script checking on changes on the Tandberg FTP. Now with the cisco way its way harder for me to keep
track on changes, new versions, ...
Sure you can subscribe manually to a specific product, but you cant to this for a technology, which I would like to.
I would love to see a optimized way on how to handle that to keep better informed about what's going on.

Also - noticed with TMS 13.2 that it has not yet posted to the FTP site but has been live on CCO since last week. Wondering if we are going to begin seeing a shift away from the FTP site.

Hi Martin,
I tried both and i am able to acces it. It might be possible that since i am in Cisco network so may be i am still reaching to ftp site.
however can you check this.
and see if you were able access it or not.
Thanks

Martin,
Try http://ftp.tandberg.com/pub instead.
Thanks,
Justin

please note the details:
Does somebody know what happened to the ftp part of ftp.tandberg.com?
I am aware that the http part still works. My little script is based on a recursive FTP listing, thats why
I asked, and I would also expect that some customers with a TMS only have specific port open on the
firewall.
Alok: yes, this might be, could even be that you have a split dns pointing to a different server internally.
Anyhow, maybe its just a firewall/server missconfig by Cisco. At least I would expect that either
FTP is completly disabled or Anonymous user auth would fail, ...

Hey Martin,
I have been advised this is being investigated. In the meantime, try using a dedicated ftp client (e.g. WinSCP) that doesn't use Passive mode. (Internet Explorer with passive mode turned off worked for me). For all others, http://ftp.tandberg.com/pub/ can be used.

Hello Paula!
As I am here behind NAT with not nat helper for FTP it would not work for me,
but I just tested on a host on a public IP I could connect with avtive-ftp. Thx for the info!
How shall the "ftp.tandberg.com" be handled anyhow, should I expect to see new files there as well?
I noticed that some stuff is missing on the FTP, like TMS13.2 or the latest TCS releases.

Hi Martin,
I am not aware of any recent changes regarding this - I'll post when I find out more.
Thanks!

TCS 5.2 and 5.3 are missing from the old TANDBERG ftp site.
I also prefer that ftp site as I also get much better speeds from that site compared to the Cisco download site.
I.e. I'll easily get +2MB/sec from usenet, but Cisco only gives me 130KB/sec or so.

I can only speak for TMS and related integration products, but I can confirm that we have stopped uploading new releases to tandberg.com.

Hi Martin/All,
There are some server moves behind the scenes and, though it has been requested to have the same ports open, this may or may not happen and we all need to prepare for the eventuality that ftp.tandberg.com will be decommissioned.
As Kjetil indicated, some teams are no longer cross-posting software on both sites as Cisco.com is the main site to transition to.
Some tips in the meantime:

Hello Paula!
Thank you for the follow up!
If I see it right ftp.tandberg.com is also used for the TMS auto software upgrade download function.
I think it uses at least in the recent versions http, but still it would be good to know how how that future is seen.
In general I do not really care where I get the software but at least on the day to day operation it
was much easier and faster to use ftp.tandberg.com.
And as I can see here and in other threads/forums I am not the only one struggling a bit with the new cisco site.
Some points on how I would like to see the service (reflecting on the cisco.com download site):
thats better with the new cisco way as you have a nice search function, nicely listed whats the latest and other software releases
yes, there is the notification alert, but I am not happy with it. You have to register for each product, which even
for one seems to take forever and then you miss things for new products. I clearly see that there is a lot of
room for enhancements.
I would like to have the capability to subscribe to the telepresence, voice and uc technologies and see feeds
for software upgrades, security alerts, new products, end of life, ...
Downloads become bigger and bigger, like with CUCM you have to deal with > 4GB big images.
with the mentioned 130kb/s (=9h) it takes more then a working day to get such an image, that is not only
very unproductive but also highly frustrating, especially if the colleges working with other vendors are downloading
their files with 10mb/s (=7min)
I guess I am not the only one who has to access remote systems via vpn tunnels, firewalls, sometimes
slower links in between the remote computer and the computer I work with.
The cisco download site requires a java enabled browser, so more or less you are bound to a graphical
user interface, then combined with the downloads which seem to take forever its again frustrating and
complicated how I get a file and then how to get it on the device.
I see the idea behind having to be logged in, but it shall also be possible to generate personal unique
download links which still could be used with wget or lync.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your input. The only additional item I can personally comment on is that I agree the Notification Service could be improved, making it easier to configure for several products at once without having to go through a tree of choices by product. I have also shared my thoughts on this - clicking the Feedback button on the site does get to the right people and they are aware of pain points and opportunities for improvement and are listening.
Thanks again,
Paula

Hello Paula / Cisco!
Just noticed that the ftp part of the ftp server is working again.
So thx to who ever configured the firewall / server properly :-)
But in general this does not really fix the issue. As we can already
see that the old site is not fully updated anymore (and btw, after the IP
address change to the US the site also got slow).
I would like to see that the mentioned things could be addressed,
as this really limits the day to day operation and as I see here I am
not the only one with the same thoughts.
Greetings, Martin

Hi Martin,
You're right. There is no access to the FTP. I get the same error which you get. I tried using both being on a Cisco network and on regular network however, both failed.
Alok - How were you able to access it, any thoughts?

Mubashshir Akhtar
