4500 interface description: FIXME

Anyone ever see this before?

I was told that this is due to an issue on the interface like errors or something else.  I have never seen it before and wondered if that was true.

This interface is on the SUP

Rick,

I couldn't find anything internally which refers to that behavior.

I believe someone manually entered that description or done via script from a management system.

The switch itself won't apply the description based on port condition.

I knew I was not going crazy but needed to check for my own sanity.  There was a person here who insisted and I just had a hard time believing, but I must admit there was some room for doubt.  It just did not make any sense and I could find nothing to the effect.

  That field is just a manual description field that you have enter via CLI.  Think someone was just trying to be funny  or they were using it as an indicator that the port was faulty .

do like this:

NJ-R1#config t

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

NJ-R1(config)#int gig 1/2

NJ-R1(config-if)#desc FIXED

NJ-R1(config-if)#

and you should be OK!!!!!

LOL! Well, you could always do a "show run int g1/2" to see if the description is actually in the configuration. I would think a "show int g1/2 descr" would show you the same thing.
