UC520 with POTS. Is the conversation full duplex?

shustakc01

Level 1

We have a UC520 connected to a group of 7945 phones in the office, and Verizon POTS on the outside.  If you're having a conversation with someone who happens to be an outside caller, is the conversation full duplex - meaning can both sides talk at the same time, and both sides hear the opposing side?  Or is the conversation simplex switched so that only one person can talk at a time?

Thanks

Roscoe

Hi Roscoe,

Yes the conversation should be full duplex.

HTH,

Alex

What might cause drop outs when the in house person speaks, and his voice cuts off the outside person's coming in?

We had a problem with nasty echo and static, so we "lowered" output attenuation and input gain on the voice ports connected to Verizon.  This fixed the echo (at least so far), but it also seems to have caused a situation where the inhouse person's voice can cut off the outside person's coming in voice.

Thanks

If you connect normal analog phone on the wire do you experience the same problems?

If not please share the FXO port settings and ephone settings on one of the 7945 phone.

Best regards,

Alex

Please check the dialpeers you are using and make sure you have "no vad" under their configuration. If you cannot see "no vad" please add it and test.

Will do.

There are a slew of dial peers, most of whom have nothing to do with those outside lines.  Do I need to set this on all dial peers, or just the ones that seem to be associated with outgoing lines?

Thanks

Try with the one for outside.

Best regards,

Alex

Alex, VAD option only applies to voip dial-peer, not to pots ones.

OP problem must lie elsewhere. Possibly, non-optimal FXO port impendence setting.

Hi Paolo,

Absolutely right. Thank you for pointing this. I mixed with another post about sip:) my apologies Roscoe. Please try on one FXO with default configuration on one of the ports.

Please check the following link on how to check the implendance :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk701/technologies_tech_note09186a0080477a06.shtml

You can try THL Tone Sweep Method.

Please let me know if you fix it this way.

HTH,

Alex

Hi Roscoe,

Paolo did make me think over my mistaken post and actually this gives me idea to make  another test. Please enter "no vad" under voice-port of one of the fxo ports e.g. voice-port 0/1/0. Please tell me if this fix the issue. You can try this on default port configuration also.

Best regards,

Alex

Please state what exact IOS are you running ?

It is not normal of having to drop the default gain and values. So more investigation is needed to find what really is happening.

We tried connecting analog phones to the Verizon FIOS lines, and found no noise or echo.  Tried replacing the wires that connected the UC520 with the FIOS box.  No change seen.

Ran impedance test on all lines, and set impedance accordingly.  No change seen.
