891w connecting to wlc 5508

Hi

I am having problems connecting an 891w to a WLC, is it possible to have to separate vlans, one for the Lan ports and another for the AP modue.

I do not want the AP part of the 891w in autonomous mode. The WAN port of the router will be connected to a DSL type service.

Is there a guide or something to get a 891W to connect to the WLC?

I would like to have users on a data vlan (vlan1) connecting to the network like a normal router, then the AP module to connect to the WLC via a different IP proablly vlan 2

On the WLC itself i do not see any attempts in the logging.

Do you have the ligthweight image on the 891AP?  Here is a doc on how to convert it frol lightweight to autonomous, but it works the same in reverse.

Here is a doc for a 1941W that might help

Can i have two separate vlans, so one for the AP wireless and another for lets say data hosts connecting to the ethernet ports, it seems i can not separate the two, yes i can configure it but just does not seem to work as a layer three device, if i set it up as an AP (layer 2) fine it works, but if i try to configure as a router with an AP just does not connect to the wlc.

Mate, on your router, run this command "service-module wlan-ap 0 bootimage unified".  The WAP will boot into LWAP/CAPWAP image and hopefully your 5500 should be able to see the WAP.

Hello

Sounds like you suggestion allowed the 891 router with Wireless interface to join a 5508

I am looking at a similar design and had some questions

Is there a code version on the WLC required?

Does this 891 use a AP license?

Is HREAP mode required?

Do you know of any docs Cisco may have , can you send links if so ?

Is this a bridge solution?

Thanks , Tom

Is there a code version on the WLC required?

Yes.  Look it up in the Release Notes for the WLC.

Does this 891 use a AP license?

Yes, one.

Is HREAP mode required?

HREAP/FlexConnect is an option.

Do you know of any docs Cisco may have , can you send links if so ?

There are alot of Cisco documentations.  Which one do you like?  Wireless?  WLC?  Routers?  Which one?
