Being the first time I have worked on these is all you have to do to manage the box is like any other switch where you just create a SVI with an address and add the default static pointing to the gateway ? These are a little different that's for sure.

Yes these switches are a little different. To answer your question you can set the IP like this:
hostname [hostname]
ip host [hostname] [IP ADDRESS]
ip route 0.0.0.0/0 [gateway]
These are just some of the basics to get you going. I hope this helps.

Yeah we are just seeing some strange stuff , we have 2 nexus 5000's connected via the peer links. Have an SVi vlan 712 on both configured with different addresses in the same range going to a couple of firewalls which is the gateway for that Network management space. For some reason we can only get to one of the 5000's at a time and can't figure out why at this point . 5000's are peered ok from what i can tell and all fex's look ok.
