Hello, Is some one able to assist me.

We have a 2504 on version 7.2.103.0 and 15 of the 1131 AG's.

In short we cannot get the access points to register against the WLC, they seem to be caught up in a boot loop. They are seen on the WLC with a status of downloading, then once they have downloaded (Seen via CLI) I get an error message

I have searched and searched for a resolution with no sucesss.

Things I can confirm are

The Country code is set to GB

All ports are in Native VLAN

Access points are ETSI type.

It stops and restarts at syslog output

DTLS-3-BAD-RECORD: Erroneous record recieved from x.x.x.x: Duplicate (replayed) record.

Can I ask if you could possible post the output to the following commands:

1.  WLC:  sh sysinfo

2.  WAP:  sh version

3.  WAP:  sh inventory

Lastly, please attach a console cable to the WAP and reboot the WAP.  I would like to ask if you are able to post the entire bootup process.

Ok, the output looks good, however, the output of the entire bootup process of the WAP stops after the WAP receives the IOS from the WLC.  What happens after that?

After that it reboots and starts all over again.

Ok, so the WAP reboots and downloads the same IOS?

Right, console into the WAP and delete this subdirectory using the command "delete /f /r flash:c1130-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA3"

Make sure you have a file/directory with the prefix "rcv".  If you are not sure, please post the output to the command "dir".

If you have this file/subdirectory, enter the command "clear capwap ap private" and then reboot the WAP.

c1130-rcvk9w8-mx

You need to KEEP whatever is in this directory.  Do a "dir flash:c1130-rcvk9w8-mx".  If there is a BIN file in there then it's good.

c1130-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA3

Recommend you delete this using the command "delete /f /r flash:c1130-k9w8-mx.124-23c.JA3".

Then enter the command "clear capwap ap private" and then reboot the WAP.

Hmmm ... There's one thing left to do ...

1.  Convert the WAPs to autonomous IOS.

2.  Once in autonomous, convert back to CAPWAP, this time use the file "c1130-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA2.tar".

Have you tried uploading the code in the wlc again. If this is a new setup, I would upload the firmware on the wlc and see if that fixes it, unless you do have a few that worked.

Thanks,

Scott Fella

Hey Scott,

I need to ask because I have not been exposed to the 7.2.X code yet but look at the output of the "sh sysinfo" and look at the bootstrap of the WLC.  I don't believe it's been upgraded.  Would this be causing the issue?

That was the first thing I thought also when I saw the bootloader on the 2504.  The 5508 you need to install the FUS image and it takes around 30 minutes sitting front of the console and entering "y" for each upgrade.

I would maybe delete these files also.  I ran into some 3500's that I needed to delete these and then use the capwap ap controller ip address command from the console to get the ap to join.

I tried deleting said files.

I will need to involve our supplier as our smartnet is not active as new kit therefore unable to get the software needed.

Thanks for you help. I update you when I have more.

The problem could be that the WLC is not set to the correct country code, try to set a diffetent country to the WLC, reboot, then set it back to GB and reboot the WLC.

Check if the APs are able to join the WLC.

The error message "%DTLS-3-BAD_RECORD: Erroneous record received from
x.x.x.x:Duplicate (replayed) record" appears to relate to a duplicate record
being received by the AP.

If the access points are not on the same subnet as the WLC subnet the issue could be a layer 3
problem or latency issue on the network.

If the issue continues try to open a case with TAC.

WLC country code is set for GB and the WAP is "E" regulatory domain.

Check your links between the WLC and the APs. Make sure you don't have a half duplex link in the path.

All in all we have had a nightmare few days. The reseller we purchased the kit from cannot get Support from Cisco (I am wondering how they have purchased this kit and who from)

We have a device on its way to us today which is covered by smartnet and should we have the same issue hopefully be ablw to raise with TAC, This will be our 3rd controller 2 of which have the same symtoms.

They both have the same software build, and both units fail to upgrade to the latest build, they say their is an issue saving to flash. I am not to sure how the storage works on these devices but am wondering if there is a flash issue or memory issue which is corrupting the image that is sent to the access points.

I have already checked the Regional settings, I have also ruled this out by enabling 20 Countries at a time.

Also duplex and speed has been checked through out the pre-staging equipment.

Intefaces are all at 100Mbps/Full or 1000Mbps/Full, no CRC errors are generating so I believe the network topology to be ok.

I will update later when we have a TAC cased raised.

  • Cisco Employee,

You are right to raise a TAC case in this. The behavior match a bug that we had in 7.0 firmware where we ran out if room on the WLC when installing the AP firmwares on the WLC. This bug is the reason why your "show run-config" now outputs the name and size of every AP firmware in the primary and backup image of the WLC. I don't have my PC handy right now to get the exact bug for you but make sure your TAC engineer is thinking along those lines. This bug was fixed in 7.0.220.0 but they will need to verify that the fix was commuted to the 7.2 line as well

Since the WLC has code 7.2.103.0 and there is code 7.2.110.0  if you have access to downalod software from the Cisco.com website and it is okay for you you could try to upgrade the code and see if the issue continues or not.

But still the best option is to open a TAC case.

I have a similar problem, I was finally able to get mine to join by adding the mac address of the AP to the AP policies access list. I did not have to change any other options or check any of the additionnal policy config check boxes.
