g726 Codec on Cisco Unified Communications Manager and CMExpress

Answered Question

Dear Community,

I have been requested to explore the possibility of using G.726 codec within and between regions on Corporate Telephony System that involves CUCM8.5, CUCM6.1 and a couple of Call Manager Express.

I was wondering if g726 is available on the CUCM, since on the Region field under the Max Audio Bit Rate drop down list, g726 is not listed. Is it supported and if not am I missing something?

It seems strange to me not to be listed, since for example on a Call Manager Express (other site) we have the option to list the codecs as following:

!

voice class codec 1

codec preference 1 g711ulaw

codec preference 2 g711alaw

codec preference 3 g729r8

codec preference 4 g729br8

codec preference 5 g726r32

!

Apologies if I am missing something,

Many thanks for your prompt responses!!

I have this problem too.

G.726 is not a good choice because is not supported by the phones.

G.729 or Ilbc if you have phones supporting it, are the best options for low bandwidth.
