Solved: Router 2800 series doesn't join all-routers

Hi guys,

When a router has ipv6 enabled, this one has to join the multicast group FF02::2 (all-routers). This is confirmed here :

But, with a 2800 series router (Version 12.4(1r)), after adding an ipv6, my interface doesn't automatically join that group, but only all-nodes and the solicited-node:

  Global unicast address(es):
    2001:662:4203:105:217:59FF:FE02:8DB9, subnet is 2001:662:4203:105::/64 [EUI]
  Joined group address(es):
    FF02::1 
    FF02::1:FF02:8DB9

Therefore, all Router Solicitations fail.

Have any idea?

Julien,

A few questions,

1) What is the version of IOS is running on the 2800? (the version you list is a rommon image, the IOS should be something like 12.4(15)T3, or failing that provide an image name c2800-ipservices-124-15-T3.bin or the like)

2) What is the full config of the interface in question ?

3) Have you turned on IPv6 unicast-routing globally ?

Looks like it may be a problem with neighbor discovery mechanisms. They may be off on the interface. Have a look under the interface for:

"ipv6 nd ..."

commands. For example:

In some instances, router advertisements are surpressed (e.g., tunnel interfaces) and need to be turned on.
