Solved: SG300/RV180 Configuration

Experts,

I have an SG300, configured with several VLANs. I'm replacing a E3000 with the RV180, I've got it in the environment, but I can't seem to get to the internet from hosts on the SG300.

I have Port 4 on the RV180 connected to Port 20 on the SG300...Port 20 is in the native VLAN (VLAN1) and VLAN1 is configured as a trunk. I'm relatively new to networking so I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. I have the default route on the switch and I have the static routes for the VLANs on the router, should I be using tagging someplace?

Hi Sean, yes.

With this tandum of devices, no static route or default route would be necessary. For both device configuration, the native vlan is untag, all additional vlan will tag as a trunk link between devices. This will give 100% full intervlan routing AND internet access.

Thanks for your reply, I got this working over the weekend while support was down for maintenance. I want to make sure that I have the optimal configuration though.

I have all VLANs defined on the router and switch

I have .254 for the VLAN IPs on the router and .1 for the VLAN IPs on the switch

I have static routes for all VLANS (you're saying I can remove these)

I have a default route on the switch to VLAN 1 on the router

I have all VLANs tagged, except the default

for my clients I would use the .254 as the gateway as opposed to the .1 VLAN IP defined on the switch?

If the switch is in layer 3, you can specify the default gateway of your clients to the IP of the switch then make a default route forwarding to the router. Or you can have the DGW pointing to the router and all traffic will forward to the router.
