Solved: IOMEM set to: 25 and the Router keeps rebooting

Hi guys,

Because of a NATTING error, I had to change a memory parameter. Following a thread I found, I set the memory-size as follows:

memory-size iomem 25

After that, the router worked fine for a couple of days but after the restart it started returning memory errors. Even booting in ROMMOD, I get the following error message,

Any idea? I am not interested in keeping the old configuration. I am more than happy to reset it completely if you tell me how to do it.

Hi Dario, your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements for the image you are trying to load.

12.4(24)T Adv Security requires 192MB dram/64MB flash

You have only 128MB dram

c1841 platform with 131072 Kbytes of main memory

The latest 12.4 image Adv Security image I could see that will run with 128MB dram is 12.4(25)f.

Please downgrade to this version or earlier and report if error clears.

I've replied to your other post. As per the 1841's output, kindly raise this issue with Cisco TAC:

Hi guys.

I have inherited this router already equipped with that OS. I guess tomorrow I will organize to add an extra module of ram.

Just a question that may be silly for you guys: can I recycle an SDRAM module from an old computer or do I have to use a particular module for Cisco?

Hi Dario, it's been a while since I've had the lid of one of these but I'm pretty sure it's a single expansion slot SODIMM (more like laptop dram than PC dram) with 128MB soldered on board.

If you can, I'd recommend downgrading the IOS first just to verify that there isn't an underlying issue with your hardware. If that works, you can then upgrade with a suitable SODIMM and reload your current software.

I've ordered 256MB of extra ram. The price is low so I prefer to keep the existing OS. I wish it will work.
