Voice Gateway(3845 & 3925)

Jepoy Diaz

Hello,

I currently have Voice Gateway 3845 running MGCP in my environment and planning on replacing it with 3925. We also have Call Manager 7.1xxx in a cluster environment.

My action plan is as follow:

Register the New 3925 VG in call Manager in parallel to my 3845 VG then do the cutover at a later date once the new gateway is configure the way I wanted it.

Question:

Will my action plan break PSTN calls soon as I add the new 3925? Or any suggest will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jepoy

Jepoy,

You can configure your 3925 in IOS.
Add it to CUCM as a gateway.

Work on this till you are happy.

The day you want to changeover
add the new gateway to the same route group
as your 3845 and physically move
your telco lines.

Remove the 3845 from the route group

Test incoming anf outgoing
functionality.

If you need to revert
add the old gateway back to
route group, move telco lines back.
Remove new router from route group.

Test and resolve issues.

Alex.

I belive it is supported with 7.1, you just need to get the correct version.

And yes, you can have multiple GWs, simply replace the GW in the Route Group(s) on the cutover night.

What exact version of CUCM do you have?

You need to ensure 3925 is available as MGCP GW on that version.

Chris

Thank you guys for the pointers.

Chris,

Your are correct regarding the CUCM version because I have 7.1 running and it doesn't recognize my 3925. I am planning the 8.5 upgrade in in few weeks then will go with Alex route. I guest I can add multiple VG as long as I don't mess with the Route group is that a true statement?

Thank for clearing the dust of my head: )

Hi Jepoy,

Just in case your 8.x upgrade is delayed (for some unseen reason) the

3925 is supported in CUCM 7.1(3) like Chris nicley noted. See table 4;
