Hi,

i have a problem using my usb to serial cable connection,

i can connect to one router on my work, but i can't connect to AP 1142, (i have tested also con AP 1231).

i have a laptop running windows 7 64 bits, before i use a win xp 32 bits, and i didn't have problems.

i am using putty, and have installed tera term 4.74 but the same.

connection details, 9600, 8, 1, N, N

any ideas??,

remember that i could connect to a 2811 router, using the same cable.

Regards,

Juan Pablo Hidalgo

Make sure that you have flow control set to none or off.

Looks like the setting you have posted is correct.  This is the setting:

Configure the terminal emulation program for these parameters:

9600 baud

8 data bits

1 stop bit

No parity

No hardware flow control

You can definitely connect to another device and is the AP functional at least or do you think the console port is bad?  Also, you sure your using the correct com port?

Hi Scott,

Yes i can connect to a Cisco router, but not AP's, (yesterday i tried 3 different AP's, they all work fine, one is new, another is at my office and the last one at client's headquaters).

The port is the same i am using to connect to the routers... it's strange, today i'll ask my co-worker to test it with his laptop.. maybe this is a problem with win 7 64 bits and my usb serial cable.

any ideas?

regards,

Juan Pablo

I have no issues with Win 7 64bit on my laptop. Have someone else try and see.

  • Cisco Employee,

I also tried the USB-serial cable with the Cisco blue serial cable, connecting with the Windows 7 x64 machine, unable to access to the console of C1142, using the port settings as normal (I can console to routers or switches):

#

9600 baud

#

8 data bits

#

1 stop bit

#

No parity

#

No hardware flow control

However, I disconnected it and connected the serial cable directly to my old machine with serial port, then it is working fine, so I suggest the issue on the USB-serial cable.
