HI Can some one please help me to design the attached topology with the below condition?

1) High availabity ( if 2911 goes down 2811 should pass all traffic)

2) if primay wan down another wan servie should route all traffic

3) if one switch is down another siwtch should pass the traffic.

4) i like to either eigrp or bgp. I hope doing ibgp and ebgp will be best option.

5) i need design help with routeing protocol config.

Your earliest response would be appreciated.

Regards

SS

Are you switches layer2 or layer3, do you need them to paticipate in routing?

Yes all devices are layer 3. i want switch to partipate in routing. so the traffic will be load shared.

i tried with eigrp lots of issues on delay and metric.

i like to do bgp .. my PE is MPLS. once the traffic hits to PE it will be attached with Customer MPLS cloud.

please advise your idea on this.

What do you mean issues with delay and metric?

EIGRP or OSPF is freferred for the routing protocol inside the LAN.

You can use BGP with your PE, but inside between your routers and switches IGP is better.

Hi

I have Eigrp when I try to advertise vlan 12 in 2911 router the return traffic goes directly to switch, however switch has HSRP and point primary as 2811 router. Here I am seeing asymentric routing.

Possible to provide me the BGP design for this scenario.

I prefer IBGP on this.

Hi SS,

I’m going to make some assumptions here and just throw out some ideas.

For the CE to PE configuration I’m going to assume the 2911 connects to a dedicated PE and the 2811 connects to its own PE too and both have a EBGP configuration to the PE router for each circuit.

If that is the case then and you want the 2911 as the primary path to the MPLS cloud then I would redistribute the BGP process into EIGRP to learn the routes and pass them to your IGP switchs from the 2911 and 2811.

I would use route maps to filter out any networks you do not want and maybe only keep the default route if that is the main network you want to learn and in the redistribution process specify a higher metric on the 2811 so that is makes this path the less preferred your L3 switches routing tables point to SW that connects to the 2911 to reach the MPLS.

For the Switches use spanning-tree and make SW(2911) the root bridge and SW(2811) the secondary.

I do not know what the other side of the MPLS looks like and if it is mulit-homed or not but this assumptions is based on dual connected site to an MPLS cloud.

As for BGP I would use EBGP and prepend the path on the 2811 so it is the less desired path in the cloud.

Advertise the same networks out of each router to the MPLS.

On this diagram which device is your gateway for your PC?

I would move the HSRP to the switches and off the CE/MPLS routers.

This is just high-level design and I would like to see if anyone else who has done this can add, adjust, or improve on so we can learn from.

Thanks,

JR

Hi Juan

  Thanks for your reply,

My scenario is like below.

PE 1 ==> 2911 ==> Sw ==> Sw1& Sw2

PE1==> 2811 ==SW1

Sw1 and Sw2 is using HSRP, SW1 is active for all the LAN network.

So we use same PE to terminate both 2811 and 2911 wan Service. What we want to achieve is load sharing on both WAN service and utalize 20 Mbps all together. also high availabity means if any of the WAN or Router is died we need to use the secondary wan and router.

Please let me know if you need more information on this.

I have Eigrp when I try to advertise vlan 12 in 2911 router the return  traffic goes directly to switch, however switch has HSRP and point  primary as 2811 router. Here I am seeing asymentric routing.

-----there is way to solve the asymentric routing, you can control how you advertise vl12.You don't have to run IBGP for that matter. IBGP has slow convergence and, do you really want to setup full mesh IBGP with 2 routers and 3 switches?
