upgrade ACS 5.3 to 5.4 fails

Hello,

I try  upgrade ACS 5.3.0.40 to new version 5.4.0.46. Everything looks ok:

ACS-machine/acsadmin# application upgrade ACS_5.4.0.46.tar.gz rep01

Do you want to save the current configuration ? (yes/no) [yes] ?

Generating configuration...

Saved the running configuration to startup successfully

% CARS Install application required post install reboot...

Broadcast message from root (pts/0) (Thu Dec  6 23:36:41 2012):

The system is going down for reboot NOW!

Application upgrade successful

But ACS machine (vmware instance) can't boot with this result: Volume group "smosvg" not found. (for details see attachment)

Any ideas?

Did you install patch 8 on the 5.3.0.40 before upgrading to 5.4?

Maybe you are running into CSCuc93106..

edit:

ehhmm .. unlikely.

joopv,

of course I have no patch installed! before upgrade to 5.4 is needed patch 6 or higher (patch 7, 8).

thanks.

Hello joopv,

after successfully installing patch 8, upgrade to 5.4 has the same issue - kernel panic after reboot to 5.4. Any idea?

Martin,

How much disk space did you allocate for ACS when you initially created the VM?

Javier,

it was long time ago, I can't remember. But I think, there was enough space (based on install/upgrade guide).

In the final, I exported configuration from version 8.3, then install fresh 8.4 and import saved configuration. I had two ACS boxes, therefore whole upgrade was without interuption 'radius services'.
