Hi all,

Is there any difference between AIR-SAP2602-x-K9 with lightweight IOS and AIR-CAP2602-x-K9?

Thanks a lot!

A.

You can always convert a SAP to a CAP:)

Well the standalone model doesn't support features the the WLC support like RRM and CleanAir for example. So if you want these features, you need the AIR-CAP and a WLC.

The ideea is that now I have 3 pcs. AIR-SAP2602-x-K9 and no WLC. In the next 6 months I will buy an 2500 series WLC.

The question is should  buy another AIR-SAP2602-x-K9 (I urgently need an AP) or should I wait and buy AIR-CAP after I buy the WLC?

Thanks!

Thank you for this topic, i am facing the same dificulties and concern, if the SAP series can be upgardable to CAP then why cisco offer the both models wit same price, i have to justify this point to one of my customer and the only reson i made up that for restriction and control perposes. anyone get an access to the WLC he will not be able to reach and change the configuration of SAP AP's.

i appriciate if you can add some points.

The reason they offer two models is because some don't have the funds to purchase a WLC which is required for a CAP. Using a WLC centrally manages the wireless as far as configuration and images. SAP or standalone, requires you to manage each access point. This means the configuration and software image. Time is saved using a WLC and also the features you get with a WLC doesn't compare to what you can get with a SAP.
