Is Cisco WebEx Meetings Server able to co-reside with other UC apps on UCS servers, or is it more of a standalone VM residing on UCS hardware, similar to what MeetingPlace 8.5 is like?

If it is presently not able to co-reside with other UC apps, is it on the roadmap?

Thank you,

sciric Mon, 02/25/2013 - 14:37

Hello Frank,

Thanks for bringing this question.

Currently CWMS system is a standalone but co-residence is on the road map.

Co-residency with vCenter is supported with 50-user and 250-user systems only. Co-residency with Cisco Unified Communications products on the same physical host is not supported.

This is the document where you will find more info

Thanks Srdjan

Hello Srdjan,

I'm having problem with my CWMS deployment. I intend to use the Media (50 Users Admin) and IRP VM. However, I encountered deployment error 363 as shown in the attachment (the hostname of the IRP VM is supposed to be, but when the status goes to failed, it changed to

I've searched for this error but Cisco's documentation is not clear at all. Let me quote from the troubleshooting guide:

You receive one of the following two error messages: Auto-Deployment Fails for error.deploy_summary.363 or Auto-Deployment Fails for error.deploy_summary.365.

Possible Cause    You cannot deploy to the selected virtual machine.

Solution    Select Start Over to restart the deployment.

To be honest, it's not helping at all as It doesn't help me identify the root cause of the problem.

Any ideas?

Hello Aldred,

Sorry to hear that, this is a little bit complex problem (basically need more info) and would sugguest you to contact me directly to open a ticket and work with you to resolve this issue.

On the another hand, those errors are coming from Esxi running on that box where you would like to deploy the IRP.

First thing you can check is Hardware requirements of the Host where IRP will be sitting additionally make sure user used for deploying have all required privileges.

One workaround here would be to redoploy manually.

Please feel to reachout to me and I will open a SR and work with you to resolve this.

Thanks Srdjan

aldred.benedict Mon, 02/25/2013 - 18:10

Hello Srdjan,

1. By opening a ticket, do you mean escalating to TAC? And how do I ensure that the person reached is you?

2. The current situation is that I actually placed the Admin Server and vCenter in the same physical machine as a few of the UCM products (CUCM Suscriber and MediaSense Publisher) and IRP in another physical machine which hosts CUCM Publisher, Suscriber, MediaSense Suscriber and Presence, Each server is 1 CPU 8 core with 48GB RAM. The reason is that we do not have anymore server left to install CWMS. When I finished posting the previous question, I read the question asked by Frank in whiich you gave the link for the minimum requirements. I realized that the minimum requirements is not met, because Admin + IRP alone will already consume 40GB. Is that the reason why that error is generated?

sciric Mon, 02/25/2013 - 18:29

Hello Aldred,

I think you ansered your question.

"Co-residency with Cisco Unified Communications products on the same physical host is not supported."

Feel free to reachout to me if you have any other questions.

When opening a ticket put in the case notes that you would like Srdjan Ciric to work on this SR and I ll make sure to take the SR.

Thanks Srdjan

aldred.benedict Mon, 02/25/2013 - 18:35

Hello Srdjan,

Thanks for your prompt response. Earlier you mentioned in private message that we can actually work on it by using manual deployment. Seeing that this is the case (co-residency with other UCM VMs), will manual deployment still work?

Thank you

sciric Mon, 02/25/2013 - 18:49

  Hello Aldred,

For auto-deployment to work you need 12 vCPU's and you have only 8 vCPU's please look into below document.

This is answer to you question that is why your auto-deployment fails.

Now, if you want to TEST  ( NOT SUPPORTED BY TAC) in the lab you could try Manual deploy and take off reservations before powering them on.

  I hope this helps.

  Thanks Srdjan

aldred.benedict Mon, 02/25/2013 - 20:51

Hello Srdjan,

What do you mean by taking off reservations?

Thank you

sciric Tue, 02/26/2013 - 15:56

Hello Aldred,

Following up on your question.

This is a workaround here for LAB SYSTEMS, but in anyway should not be used in production.

THIS is NOT to supported by CISCO.

Thanks Srdjan

Hello Sdrjan,

We are looking at installing a CWMS, and are trying to get a feel for the effort involved.  We understand that the deployment of the product is pretty simple, the bulk of the effort comes in configuring and administering the services and features.  We are looking at a controlled rollout, ultimately to about 3000 users.  Are there deployment guidelines, best practices, etc, for CWMS yet?  If not, to what extent is Meeting Place and/or Webex SaaS practice relevant?

Thanks for any guidance you can give.

sciric Thu, 02/28/2013 - 13:59

Hello ,

As one of the comments we got from customers/partners deploying the CWMS first feedback was : "It is easy to deploy."

In regards to your questions let me redirect you to CWMS Customer Presentation which has more details.

You can find any other Docs on our CEC Page

If you need any additional assistance from me please feel free to email me.

Thanks Srdjan

Thank you for your response.  I can't pull up the link - it's a page (trying the same link at gives me a 404 error).  Can you possibly forward the document?

christoph.hable Tue, 03/05/2013 - 05:36

Hi Srdjan,

When I load the recent OVA of CWMS ( I receive the following requirements which causes confusing:

50 User Admin:

  • 4 vCPU
  • 14GB RAM
  • 2 vNIC
  • ~350GB HDD (several partitions)

50 User IRP:

  • 4vCPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 2 vNIC
  • ~112GB HDD (several partitions)

  1. These requiremens are completely  different to the Ordering Guide / Cisco UC Sizing Tool and the  available System requirements, which say (since version 1.1) 24GB RAM  for Admin and 12GB RAM for IRP. CPU requirements is now dependent on  ESXI version (5.1 needs more CPUs).
  2. HDD requirements depents of  course on requirements. If e.g i don't need meeting recording at all, we  can say 500GB HDD is more than enough, can't we?
  3. With recent  OVA i cannot choose a combination / co-resident for one VM (Admin +  IRP)? Do you know how this can be achieved with OVF deployment?
  4. If  we have a Micro Installation with max. 5 concurrent sessions, the  50-Port system is extremely oversized. Will there be any change in the  future to install it on a VM with smaller footprint?
  5. Can you explain the Manual Deployment with smaller requirements for Testlab/Demo in more detail?
  6. Meetingplace 8.5 is still not EOS, but i think CWMS will be the migration product. Do you know when CWMS will support audio only conferences (w Scheduling)?

Hello Christoph,

Let me try to provide answers on your questions.

1. You are right about this , I would go with

To adress your question , I would sugguest you to open an SR and confirm this with TAC engineers do we have issue here.

2. In regards to HDD requirements I would go with the same document which recommends 1 TB.

3. I would sugguest to open a SR and if yo uare hitting an issue to try to get workaround with manual deployment.

4. I m not aware of this on the roadmap.

5. The question was raised on this thread and I tried to provide workaround for co-residence  "in lab" . If you want to go with auto-deployment on co-residence with anything else it wont work, hardware requirements must be meet for production system.

6. Let me confirm this with PM Team and come back to you.

I hope this was helpfull

Thanks Srdjan

Hi Srdjan,

I rencently installed a CWMS whitout any problems but I'm now having problems to configure the NFS share for the storage server. I configured a NFS share on windows 2012 server and it's not working.

I can't find any documentation that explains the way the WMS server is accessing the NFS share (user, right, ...). Could you please help me to find information with this ?

sciric Tue, 03/05/2013 - 21:00

Hello Francois,

Feel free to open an service request . I'm not aware of a document like that.

What we can do is to find the solution there or provide a workaround with some Linux box.

Feel free to mention my name when opening SR that way engineer working can reach out to me.

Thank Srdjan

Hi Srdjan,

could you please give us quick overview of this  product, i.e. compare it with MeetingPlace? Is it successor or we  talking about two complementary products, what are main highlights of  CWMS, is it possible to download trial/demo version to test this  solution, do we need any additional HW apart from VMs for lab  environment...

sciric Thu, 03/07/2013 - 08:23

Hello Tenaro,

Let me anwser your question by providing you Customer Presentation for CWMS.

It highlights the compelling reasons why a MeetingPlace customer should upgrade to CWMS, as well as details of a commercial promotion available to assist these customers in the upgrade.

If you can not reach this feel free to reach out to me directly and I will provide you this document.

In regards to HW spec here is the link to give you more details:

And In regards of trail let me provide you a link for that as well:

If you need any additional assistance from me please feel free to email me.

Thanks Srdjan

Since this is a newer product and if anyone is interested I am running Wx 1.1. It is fantastic! Cisco was listening and delivered a solid on prem meeting solution that is leaps and bounds better than MPX. If you are a CUWL customer you are in luck with your licenses. My company was just about to sign the GoToMeeting contract when my cisco account team presented this "coming soon" solution last year. Admittedly, I am an early adopter and started the install last nov and had all kinds of issues due to this being a new product so i probably blazed the trail for smooth sailing to the others making the move now.

I would like to know what the 2.0 road map looks like. There are some missing features that I would like to see that WebEx cloud have. For example, the ability to join by meeting number only. The integration with jabber works great. We have had few little buggy things happen but cisco is headed in the right direction. I would like to see the ability somehow to prevent WebEx from touching every window that you have open when first launching. I have learned to close everything and only open the apps to share otherwise it cause all kinds of video weirdness and lag intially.

I have to give credit when it's due as to not appear to only complain
