WAAS save config using SNMP

Hello,

I have applied a sysLocation variable to a large number of WAAS/WAE 474's using snmp [oid .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.6.0]

Is there a vendor specific MIB to perform a wr mem without logging on to each box ?

I have tried the OLD-CISCO-SYS-MIB variable .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.54.0 by setting the integer variable to 1.

But the MIB doesn't appear to be supported.

Is there an OID to use ?

Regards,

Ian

Hello Ian,

Unfortunately there is no way to make configuration changes on WAAS via SNMP. On WAAS we can use SNMP only for monitoring the state and performance.

But there is an API on WAAS which can be used by programmers to integrate with customized or third-party monitoring and management applications. But it's a bit complicated and needs programming skills to develop requests.

XML API

Cisco WAAS Central Manager provides an API to allow applications to interact directly with data and information collected by Cisco WAAS. This API provides a programmable interface for system developers to integrate with customized or third-party monitoring and management applications.

The Central Manager monitoring API is a web service implementation. The client and server communication follows the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) or Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) standard. This communication, which exhanges XML-based messages over the network using HTTP or HTTPS, allows comprehensive montioring and data exchange between Cisco WAAS Central Manager and other third-party or custom applications.

Hello Dimitry,

Thank you for your reply, and I have a few comments regarding the above iinformation;

i. If we are unable to make configuration changes via snmp, what is the purpose of RW community which the box supports.

ii. You say we cannot make changes using snmp but I have already changed the sysLocation on 200+ devices via snmp.

iii. Having already changed a value, as above, I want to save the config, not make further changes.

Being able to write the config to NVRAM is a very basic systen admin function , I would have thought it a very fundamental task which would be supported, even if snmp support was very minimal.

Are you trying to say there are no vendor specific MIBs, but we can change sysName , sysLocation etc as they are general MIB2 'system' variables, if you get the terminology I have used ?

Rgds

Ian

Hello Ian,

I apologize for misunderstanding. Of course we can change values for the variables which have read-write access capabilities. I meant that unfortunately we don't have a private MIB on WAAS which can give us ability to save/copy running/startup configuration somehow.

For Cisco IOS devices we have such private MIB which is CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB (OLD-CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB - an old version).

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080094aa6.shtml

But again unfortunately there is no such MIB on WAAS. Also we can check all supported MIBs on WAAS at the link below:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v521/configuration/guide/SNMP.html#wp1107077

And also this tool can be useful: SNMP Object Novigator

Thank you!

Hello Dmitry

Thank you for the clarification.

A shame there's no vendor MIB support but I understand the situation.

Regards,

Ian.
