Upgrading 3560, 3750 and 2960

Hi,

I have a mainetance winodw coming and I want to upgrade the IOS on a few Cisco 3650, 3750, and 2960  switches, but  I am undecided in regard to the version of IOS. Does anybody has experience with the 15.0 version? It is a good idea to jump to 15.0, or I should stick with 12.2 (I was thinking to upgrade to 12.2(55)SE7.

Thank you

I second Inayath's post.

12.2(55)SE7 is, by far, THE MOST STABLE IOS I've ever had in my network.  15.0(2)SE2 is close second.  But here are some gotcha's ...

If you are running 802.1X, stay away from 15.0(2)SE2.  Instead, use 12.2(55)SE7.   This is very important if you are using 3750 (all series) and/or 3560 (all series).

For 2960 (all series), I have no issues with 15.0(2)SE2 even with PoE and 802.1x.  I give this version an "all clear".

Currently, I'm testing 12.2(55)SE8 and 15.0(2)SE4 and it's yet too early for me to give my opinion on both of these versions.

Julia,

Quick and Easy Answer:

3750/3600 series:-I recommend a "stable" IOS, then 12.2(55)SE7 .  This is followed by 15.0(2)SE2(If you required 802.1x support) else 12.2(55)SE7 is the best.

2900:- 15.0(2)SE2 works well with 2960/G/S even with 802.1x.

Hope this answered your query.

Regards

Inayath

This is great information;

We do use Radius authentication for logging into the switches on vty interface.

What exactly is the issue with 15.0.(2)SE2 and 802.1.x?

and there are more.

What exactly is the issue with 15.0.(2)SE2 and 802.1.x?

I don't have the bugs I've hit (three) with 3560 and 3750 but one of them can crash the appliance.

I have a whole site running on 15.0(2)SE1; so far no issues on 3560s and 2960s. But, for next sites, I will go with 12.2(55)se7

Give me two more weeks and I should be able to give you my findings/opinions in regards to the latest IOS versions:  12.2(55)SE8 and/or 15.0(2)SE4.
