I need to add b200 m3 to my existing chassis of b200 m2s

what vic card or mezzane card should i get?

Hi Tony,

Note that if this is your first b200 m3 your UCS environment must be running a minimum firmware of 2.0(2) as this is a requirement to for this blade.

Regarding the VIC card,

You can use the VIC 1240 which will allow you to configure boot san. if you want to increase your bandwidth you can install the Port Expander but note that this is only supported with second generation IOM 220x (see spec sheet below)

Also see table 8 of document below for other supported Mezzanine adapters.

M81KR is is only use by the M2 series blades, not the M3 blades. The 1240 is only for M3 series blades and the 1280 is used UCS M2 (B200, B230, B440) and M3 Blades (see documente below).

other blades current have the VIC 1280 and another have the M81KR

is the VIC 1240 comparable to the M81KR or the 1280?

so he 1280 is a faster vic card than the 1240? i only have 1 1240 on the blade and did not buy an extender

it won't be faster, but it will offer extra 40GB bandwidth than the 1240.

Keep in mind to get full 80GB of I/O with any adapter combination you require the 2208 IOMs. If you don't have these, there's no point of the expander card or expecting to exceed 40GB per blade.

i am looking for something similar in performance on the b200 m3 compared to the b200m2

on my m2s, some blades have m81kr mezannine card and some have the 1280

will the 1240 be identical?

Don't worry about network performance, even with vic1280 the pci-e can carry only 54Gbps. ( I guess is that number, or something close that).

how many lanes does the m81kr support? what is the total aggregated bandwidth to the blade with the m81kr mezzanine?
