Nexus 1000v setup on UCS- VMware Infra getting started- help!

Dear Team,

Need some insight on UCS and Nexus 1000v Infra setup with VMWare

here is where we stand

We have decided to create Service Profiles which will have

6 vNICs and 2 vHBAs

vNIC1-Mgmt FI-A- VLAN 100

vNIC2-Mgmt FI-B- VLAN 100

vNIC3-Data FI-A

vNIC4-Data FI-B

vNIC5-vMotion FI-A

vNIC6-vMotion FI-B

The above service profile is applied on B200M3 and ESXi running on it

Similarly we have 4 blades

And we are able to get the Management IPs of ESXis outside FI through VLAN100 via Nexus 5K,the native vlan on Nexus 5K and FI is given as 999

Now we need to bring the Nexus 1000v into picture

From here on we are a bit confused on how to start

1)After installing ESXi,what is to be done on VMs network part?

2)How do we use/arrange the above VNICs in ESXi

undrerstand that Nexus1000v is a VM residing on an ESXi having 6 vNICs

(traffic flow->)so what ever communication it has to do its via these vNICs,hope am correct?

so traffic flow is from Nexus1000v via 6 vNIcs to the uplink that we have made in FI to the outside network?( if the traffic has to go out)

3)After installing Nexus 1000v as a VM (or any other way to proceed?) on an ESXi how to proceed further-how do we get the above mentioned VNICs which are now vmnics ,as part of Nexus 1000v,and any vlans to be created?

4)Have heard of creating port profile in 1000v, how does this work?what is it for? where does it fit in the above scenario( traffic flow->)

Please guide as we are new to this..

Let's just start with question 1. The 1000v is difficult to set up and configure the first few times around, so it's best to break this up into smaller questions.

1)After installing ESXi,what is to be done on VMs network part?

I think you're asking what the first step is to install the 1000v. The 1000v has two components: the VSM and the VEM. The VSM is a virtual machine that either lives in your vSphere cluster or on a Cisco 1010/1110 appliance. You'll want to make sure that the version of the 1000v you're planning on installing is compatible with the version of vSphere on your hosts. Once you've got the right version, you'll run the install, which will prompt you for information on your vCenter Server. Once the installer is complete, you'll need to register the 1000v as a plug-in to vCenter. This will allow you to see the 1000v as a dvSwitch in the Inventory view within vSphere (which is also where you will eventually add your hosts to the dvSwitch).

The VEM is a software module that will be installed on each of the ESXi hosts that will participate in the 1000v. You can deploy the VEM either via VUM or using the esxcli.

You'll want to read through this document to see the specifics of the installation. I'm keeping this explanation high-level for brevity's sake. Once you get through step 1, post a reply to tell us how far you were able to get, and we'll help you through the rest.

The installation and the workflow part is made clear now..

Now on the service profile part for a particular server holding ESXi, the design that we have opted with six vNics is it fine?

or any other best practice? the question was how do we distribute the control packet data vmotion mgmt vNics and their vlans on these 6 vNics  (  UCS 2204XP I/O Module (4 External, 16 Internal 10Gb Ports) ,Cisco UCS VIC 1240 modular LOM for M3 blade servers) or any better design?
