Do you have to enable it for it to work, obviously no but there is no defintitive answer to whether or not you should use it.


This sort of thing is more to do with your company's security policy ie. a security policy may state that authentication is used between routing protocols wherever it can be. But if there is no definite policy on it then it is entirely up to you as to whether you use it or not.
