Firmware download for 3602i from 7500 WLC taking too long

Hi friends,

Anyone encountered this scenario whereby when new APs bootup with the recovery software, and it starts to download firmware from a 7500 WLC, it takes too darn long. Sometimes upto 7 hours!

I have done for many sites and they are usually fast, around 1 hour max.

What can be the issue? Furthermore certain sites only start with a number of downloads and the rest of the AP waits for the others to finish. This is driving me mad. No issue with latency or anything.

WLC version: 7.5.102.0

AP recovery version: 7.3.1.53

This is the error I keep seeing in the logs:

How many AP are you trying to upgrade at a site?

Have you looked at configuring a master AP?

Only 5 3602i units. It downloads only 4 at one time. It has been running for 7 hours now.

On another site I am installing 8 3602i and only 3 can download at one time. Takes 6 hours minimum.

Looked at the Flexconnect AP upgrade with a "master" AP. However these are brand new APs out of the box and have not been added to the Flexconnect group.

(using option 43 via dhcp server for the AP to discover the WLC)

It is good idea to stage them first (bring them to your location & pre-configure HA, FlexGroup, etc) prior to send it to remote branches.

What is the bandwidth you got to these sites, it should not take that long at all. If you could console onto one of the 3600 at remote brach it will tells us whats going on...
