Question about a Cisco 891 - Switch ports can route?

Hello,

I have a question regarding a 891 Series router.

I know that there is a GE0 port (WAN) and a FE Routing port (FE8) and both of them are router ports.

The other FE Ports (Fast Ethernet 0 to 7) can be also used as independent routed ports (maybe using interface vlan)? Or does the router only have GE0 and FE8 for routing? If the switch ports can be used also as routed ports, can a xconnect session be established using it?

Thanks a lot for your help and best regards!

Gi0 and FE8 are both for routing.

FE0 to FE7 ports are Layer 2 ports.

Thanks for your answer.

Is it not possible to put any of the FE0-FE7 in a certain VLAN X and then declare an "Interface Vlan X" than may be used as a third routed interface?

You can put interfaces FE0 to FE7 into different VLANs but you need either Gi0 or FE8 to do the subinterfaces.

Exactly what are you trying to do?
