Hi all,

We are having WLC 4404(6.0.202.0) and AP's 1131 and 1242 . We have some 75 wireless clients out of which 20 laptops are having connectivity issue. When a client connects  first time they will get limited connectivity . after disconnect and connect it again it will start to work .

The below is the debug for both scenariao's

Correct Answer by Scott Fella about 3 years 6 months ago

Might be that they keep their IP address but while they are in sleep, the lease expires and the IP address is leased to another device? Or maybe the WLC keeps the IP address while the client is in idle or sleeping client state and the device awakes and wants a new address? You have to look at the client state on the WLC and see what the IP address if the client is. Then look at the machine when it wakes up... Does it have an IP address or not and also look at the DHCP scope for the lease time and maybe the routers arp table to see if there are duplicate MAC address tied to the IP address.

You need to take a closer look at what's happening.... when this happens, what does the radius server show, what does the WLC show for the client under the monitoring tab?  The thing that you need to look at is what interface did the WLC put that client on, because it can of left them in your quarantine interface.  When using AP Groups also, it becomes a challenge because one code it works fine, others, it may not.  I usually have created a black-hole interface and assign that to the WLAN interface and use AP Groups to assign the correct interface.... well it doesn't work all the time.  Also when using AP Groups

Your using WEP? Also I would disable client load balancing which is another big issue in your WLAN setting.

Yes , this is in one of our client location . will Disabling the client load balancing help to resolve it ? Previously they were runing with 4.x series software. Recently they upgraded with this release . After upgrade only they are facing this issue.

Hi Scott,

We have tried the below options ,

1. Disabled client load balancing and infra MFP

2. Upgraded with 7.0.240 for WLC

But still , the issue is happening for the laptops in sleep mode . Means , once the sleeping clients are on , first time they are showing as " limited connectivity " . But once we disconnnect and connect again it will work . Any idea on why the Power save clients are showing as limited connectivity.

Thanks..

  • Cisco Employee,

Do you happen to have MFP(management frame protection) enable on your client and is your client supporting CCXv5(CCXv4).

If not supporting CCXv5(CCXv4) then please try disabling the MFP and try again.
