Hello Team !!

I have a question. We have a couple of 5508 controller on Central Site and we want manage 10 AP3602 in remote site.

In the remote site we have a couple of 3850 on lan core and we don´t use the AP controller embebed in 3850. The AP are directly attached to 3850.

With this scenario. The question is we want use the 5508 to manage the ap. Is it possible to do this ?

Regards.

HI,

As per my Knowledge Yes you can manage the 3600 series AP with only 5508 WLC.

you can this 3850 as a cisco switch.

you can manage by Flexconnect / H Reap Scenario.

As long as you don't configure the wireless on the 3850, it will act like any other switch.  Like Sandeep mentioned, what typically is done with remote sites if using FlexConnect, unless your sites are connected with high bandwidth links.  Here is a support guide that I have used in the past and is great reference.

Hi,

By default this WLC functionality is not ON, so you do not want to worry about that unless you already configured it.

"wireless mobility controller" & "wireless management interface x" are the CLI command on this switch to enable WLC functionality.

You should be able to remove those two lines as below & then reboot the switch. It should not act as a  WLC afterwords

3850(config)#no wireless mobility controller

%

Mobility role changed to Mobility Agent.

Please save config and reboot the whole stack.

3850(config)#no wireless management interface x

The c3850 has been configured and right now What´s the way to disable?

Apologies for inconvenience.

The C3850 uses the Mobility agent and I can not disable too.

Question

If I can connect the AP3602 directly attach to a 2960X and The 2960x attach to the C3850.

Can join the AP to the remote 5508 controller and  don´t use the Mobility agent in C3850??

Regards.

do you have centrel and remote location connection via Flexconnect technology ??

Only way to connect and mange the remote AP from centrel site is to have hrep/flexconnect design.

I know the HREAP / Flexconnect,

The question is C3850 issues.

The question is on Mobility agent the C3850 capture capwap traffic and don´t let the AP join to remote C5508

So the question is... did you enable wireless on the 3850?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Sertorivs,

The question is on Mobility agent the C3850 capture capwap traffic and don´t let the AP join to remote C5508

This should only happen if you configure "wireless management interface Vlan X" command on your switch. Pls check your 3850 configs & see if it is there using  "sh run | in wireless" output.

If no wireless management configured, it is just L3 switch, no wireless functionality at all. So you should be able to register your APs to 5508

If you having still problems after this pls post the output of AP console once it is booting up & register.

HTH

Rasika
