3650 Version 03.03.01SE - Stack Renumbering issue

ogor

Level 1

Hi,

I need to change the switch number of a 3650 stack but the IOS command

switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number

is not available and I'm with the lattest IOS XE version.

So what are my alternative to move switch 2 to switch 1 and to move switch 3 to switch 2 ?

Best regards and thanks in advance.

Olivier

Via this document the comand switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number is global configuration mode command...

But in practice it`s, like on 3850 platform, is EXEC commnad...

So, please someone from the vendor representatives, can you contact with documentation team and and let them know about this issue?

I'm sorry, was wrong, confused with 3850...

just looked at Stack Manager and High Availability Configuration Guide, Cisco IOS XE Release 3SE (Catalyst 3650 Switches):

really switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number is global configuration mode command...

But in 3850 it is EXEC command...

Hi,

sorry for the stupid question, are you sure that you have typed this command via EXEC mode, not via global configuration mode?

switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number is EXEC command...

Hi,

It's not so stupid and looks like the 3650 are working like 3850.

With other platform like 3750, 3750-E and 3750-X the config was enterred in global config and now it must be enterred in EXEC mode.

Thanks for the feedback

3750 config guide

Command

Purpose

Step 1

configure terminal

Enter global configuration mode.

Step 2

switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number

Specify the current member number and the new member number for the member. The range is 1 to 9.

You can display the current member number by using the show switch user EXEC command.

Step 3

end

Return to privileged EXEC mode.

Step 4

reload slot stack-member-number

Reset the stack member.

Step 5

show switch

Verify the stack member number.

Step 6

copy running-config startup-config

Save your entries in the configuration file.

Sorry for persistence, but you can really confirm that, in practice, this command on 3650, like 3850 platform, is EXEC command?

This is important because in document Stack Manager and High Availability Configuration Guide, Cisco IOS XE Release 3SE (Catalyst 3650 Switches):

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/3se/ha_stack_manager/configuration_guide/b_hastck_3se_3650_cg_chapter_010.html#task_1110719

this command typed as global configuration mode command... So there are mistakes or misprints on this document!

Hi

Yes I confirm that on the 3650 it's in EXEC mode to enter switch command renumber. So the doc is wrong.
