Can anyone provide a "show inline power" for a Cisco AP 3702 without expansion modules but with 802.11ac activated so we can see how much PoE-Power (Watt) the Access Point really needs at PSE (Switch).

Thanks

Manuel

Hi Rasika,

First of all let me thank you for the wonderful blog which you own for wireless. It helped me a lot during implementing various wireless projects. I have a question regarding the 3702I access points. We have a project where we will connect 3702I access points to the old 3560 POE switches. I know we need more power than 15.4W as per the data sheet for the access point. But what is the draw back if we run the access point with 15.4W??.

Thanks in advance

Shabeeb

Hi Shabeeb

Thanks for reading my blogs & the  feedback.

If 3700 with 15.4W, simply it will turn off one radio chain. So performance will be less compare to its operation with 4x4 radio chain. If you use module (WSSI) with 3700 & feed from 15.4W, then it further reduce to 2x2 by turning off two radio chains.

You can refer this for detail (refer fig 83 of the given link for the summary)

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/apdeploy/7-6/Cisco_Aironet_3700AP.html#pgfId-99003

The AP 3700 with integrated 802.11ac wave-1 radio is designed to run from Power over Ethernet (PoE) sources, local power, or via mid-span or power injector. If the AP 3700 is powered by PoE and the source is 802.3af (15.4 Watts) the AP will come up and fully function in a 3x3:3 mode, for enhanced performance additional power sources such as 802.3at, enhanced PoE, Cisco PoE Injector-4, or local power may be used. With additional power (greater than 15.4W) supplied, the 3700 will shift into the 4x4:3 mode.

If the customer has lower PoE requirements and still wishes to use the AP 3700 and say the WSSI module, the AP 3700 will still function with the module but in a 2x2:2 mode with the module enabled.

Hi Rasika,

does operating 2x2:2 effects flex connect mode operation.

In same condition , local mode works fine. For flex mode, AP is up some time and later disassciotates with the controller

so based on the example above, drawing 16.8w means it's running 4x4 or 3x3 mode?

Thanks much!

!6.8W is full power for a 3702 AP, so 4x4 mode.

The question I have is how to suppress/stop the alerts in Cisco Prime? We know the 15.4 is not full power, but have not had the chance to replace the older switches.
