I really know nothing on configuring VPNs. I have tried to follow the different guides given by cisco as well as using the QuickVPN setup wizard but I am completely lost. What I want to do, is to be able to join my local network when I am abroad.

At first, I created a VPN account and I tried to connect using the QuickVPN utility (I put the ip address provided by my internet provider as the server address) (using my phone to be on a different network) but I got an error saying:

Failed to establish a connection.

This could be caused by the following:

  1. Incorrect password
  2. No valid IP for the network card.
  3. Incorrect server address
  4. Windows Vista/Windows 7 with Windows Firewall disabled, which disabled IPSec service
  5. Local IP Address conflicts with the subnet of the remote VPN server

I know that (1) the password is correct, that (2) the network card connects to internet so it must have a valid IP, that (3) the server address is the ip address of my provider on my router's side, that (4) the windows firewall is activated.

For (5), I really don't know what to verify but I supposed that it is okay.

I would simply like to be able to access my home network while I'm traveling, I guess this is something pretty basic, if anyone has a clue or can guide me that would be really appreciated !

Thank you
