Problems with Cisco Stack C2960S-F48TS-L

Hi all,

i tried to update one of my stack switches to a newer version.

Unfortunately, there seems to be an issue with the newer IOS version (or at least it is not synchronized) through all switches. I already tried to copy the bin files from the stack master through all stack members switch2 and switch3. The file were copied but there is no effort after reboot.

I'm getting "Version Mismatch". (different stack versions ?)

Is someone able to help me, what is the best way to add the two members back to the stack ?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

Error message states that your stack master is running different version to the other two.  From the "sh version" it is evident that the stack master is running a buggy 15.0(2)SE5 while the two other stack members are running an equally buggy 15.0(2)SE.   This is the main reason why switches 2 and 3 won't join your stack.

My recommendation to you is to load 15.0(2)SE4 to all the switches INDEPENDENTLY.

If you have a spare USB stick, you can upgrade the two or three switches quickly if you load the IOS (TAR file) into a spare USB stick.  Make sure the USB stick is formated with FAT16 before you load the IOS into it.

Insert the USB to the switch you want to upgrade and console into it.  Issue the command "archive download-sw /over usbflash0:IOS.TAR" to start the switch upgrade process.

One the entire stack is upgraded to the same IOS version, then you can reload the entire stack.

Hi Christian

I haven't had to do this for a while but as I remember it any problems were usually a file management or naming issue.

When copying the software image you want it to be in the same directory or path on each switch if possible. I'd usually just copy from flash on switch 1 to switches 2 and 3 (flash2: and flash3:)

#copy flash:c2960-blah-blah flash1:c2960-blah-blah

Just wondering if after you copied the images you remembered to update the boot path.

Troubleshooting steps:
1. Check you have copied the software image
# sho file systems
make a note of the flash directories eg flash1, flash2, flash3 then
#dir flash1:
#dir flash2:
#dir flash3:
Under the output to each of the above look to see that the new image is there - Do you have 2 images listed together - make a note of the new image name. If the new image is missing from any then you want to copy it again.

2. Does the boot path-list show the correct path/image under each switch or is it that switch 2 and 3 are still referencing the old path/image
#sho boot
If its correct then it should work.  If any are wrong you can update it with
config# boot system switch [number/all] [path/image]

Remember and do Wr Mem and reload and check again.

Hope it helps (:
