vPC behaviour

I'm reading "DCICT 640-916 official cert guide". I found following statement in this book:

In a normal network condition, vPC peer link is not used for the regular vPC traffic and is considered to be an extension of the control plane between the vPC peer switches.

Is it indeed working like this? How, the switch connected to nexus switches with vPC, can determine which path it should use to send frame to orphan device? Does the switch connected to nexus switches with vPC, has any infuence on choosing link in portchannel? I thought that LB mechanisms are responsible for this.

I expect that in normal network condition vPC peer link is used all the time )if some orphan devices are connected.

Hi Michael,

I think , It is not so normal to have orphan ports in your network when you have a vpc envirorment.  How ever if you happen to have orphan ports, then peer-link is used to carry traffic to it else it may become isolated.

Hope this helps and kindly always rate posts that are usful.

Thanks,

M
