NAT within IOS-XE Train

Hello @all cisco specialists,

I've a serious question relating to my Catalyst WS-X45-SUP7L-E running IOS-XE Release 03.04.04SG with EntServices.

I just checked the Cisco software/feature navigator for network address translation in IPv4.

Is it really true, that there is no NAT support in this software release?

I can't believe, or I may be wrong. Could there anyone help me please with his experiences in this software train.

Is there any other option to translate IP from interface Vlan to another interface Vlan ?

Thanks in advance

As far as I can remember, NAT is the exclusive domain of routers.  No Catalyst switches support NAT.  In some IOS versions, the NAT commands may be there but the function is disabled.

Hello Leo,

thanks for the first information to my question.

I was hoping the catalyst 4500 platform fall into a category of multi-layer-switched plattforms, and performs nat-translations as the catalyst 6500 switches as well. Do you know about other Releases, for this platform?

I can't believe, because IOS-XE should be L3 Switch Software!

And besides, policy based routing is supported, so why not IP-NAT ?

Thanks

Most L3 switches do not support NAT.

The 6500 does (and perhaps the 6800, haven't checked) and I believe some of the Nexus switches do, but nothing else.

If you want to do NAT you will need another device.

Jon

Hello Jon, hello Leo,

good to know.

I thought as much, thanks for the hint.

Thank you at all.

Bye
