C3750x stack

Hi

We have a standalone 3750x switch in production, Due to demand of additional ports, we are going to add a new 3750x switch to the production switch as a stack.

They are same model with same license level (IP base) and IOS image (15.x).

My plan is

1. Re-number new swtich from1 to 2 and configure the production switch to make switch priority=15.

2. Power down the new switch

3. Connect stack cables between the existing switch and the new switch. (Existing switch keep powered on)

4. Power up the new switch

My questtion is - during the task 3 above, the stack will be composed without any interruption? or Do I need to reboot the production switch to compose a stack?

I would like to determine whether outage is required or not.

Thanks

Alex

Hi,

Your plan should work fine.  You should not need to re-number the new switch as once it is part of the stack the config will sync to it from the master.

You should also provision the existing switch with the new switch model number

config t

switch 2 provision <switch module>

Also change the priority to 15 in the existing switch

and the rest of the plan should work fine.

Even though this should not cause an outage, I would still have an outage window just in case something goes wrong.

Good Luck
