IM & Presence UC Service Type in UC Service Profile

I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what this Service Type that can be included in a CUCM Service Profile for Jabber clients does.

It can be configured as either a "Unified CM (IM & Presence Server)" or "Webex (IM & Presence)". Whether this configuration is assigned in my UC Service Profile or not, there is no change in service availability for my Jabber for Windows client. Whether it's on a domain joined machine or not.

Based on that it's an IM & Presence service type, I would assume this would determine whether or not you are enabled for Presence services and which servers can provide that. However all presence information, states and phone controls are available regardless of this setting.

So it's baffling to me why this is there as I cannot find a purpose for it. Does anyone know exactly what this service type provides and which clients and what connectivity scenario it would be required for?

Thanks.

Hi Randall,

What version of Call Manager do you have?
