How to set up a Home VPN?

I'm trying to set up a VPN for my home network so I can remote into my desktop securely. Can I add a Cisco VPN router behind my Netgear C3700 modem/router to do this? And if so how would I set it up? I heard the Cisco 800 series would be able to do what I need but I'm not exactly sure to how to do this.

I currently use Cisco anyconnect to remote into my work desktop, I use Microsoft RDP app to remote in with an iPad. Can I do this with my own Cisco VPN sever?
