UCS Central | Can login to Next Gen Interface but not standard

Here's an odd one for you!

I deployed UCS Central Appliance, v 1.3(1c), and performed various bits of configuration last week. I've gone to log in today and am unable to login to the standard interface, https://ucsc-01/#. I get a spinning cog that eventual timesout with the attached error, fatal communications error, click 'ok' to restart'. If I switch to the funky interface https://ucsc-01/ui/faces/Login.xhtml I have no issues at all!

I'm using Chrome and the latest version of Java. I've restarted the VM and still no luck.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks,
Greg

See here:

Try https://UCSCentral_IP/flex.html.

If you are still having issues, try a different Java version or computer, as the communication error may be an issue with your Java instance. Internet Explorer should also have no issues with the Java GUI.

Please share the results.

HTH,

Wes

No luck unfortunately

'The requested URL /flex.html was not found on this server.'

I've tried hitting the standard url then adding the /flex.html and I've also tried logging into the flash interface then adding the /flex.html but no joy with either.

Thanks,

Greg

Hey Greg,

If the HTML5 UI is working, the issue appears to be with the Java applet. Can you attempt to downgrade to Java 7 and see if the issue persists?

You can also try clearing the browser cache and see if you are still having issues?

You may also attempt to telnet to the UCS Central IP as below to make sure all ports are open:

MACPRO:~ root$ telnet 1.2.3.4 843 <-Change this IP address to your UCS Central IP
Trying 1.2.3.4...
Connected to 1.2.3.4.
Escape character is '^]'.

If you are still seeing problems, we would need to take a look at the Java console and see what is occuring when you attempt to login:

1. Install Windows Flash Player 11.8 Plugin content debugger (http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html)

2. Create a new file called mm.cfg with following settings under C:\users\<username>
ErrorReportingEnable=1
PolicyFileLog=1
PolicyFileLogAppend=1
TraceOutputFileEnable=1

3. Login to UCS Central using the following URL:
https://ucs-central-hostname/#?printRequests=true

4. After logging in press CTRL-Shift-L in the window and set destination to trace.

5. Attempt to login and collect logging.

You can attach the logs after collected and we can take a look.

HTH,

Wes

Hi Wes,

I've resolved this by installing a 32 bit version of Java 8 update 45 . I was running a 64 bit version and had tried 7 and 8.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Greg

I thought I'd better update this as my issue was actually firewall related! I needed to open TCP port 843.

Cheers,

Greg
