Hi,
I would like to ask for your suggestions and recommendations on how or what is the best possible procedure to migrate the System Backup from CUCM 8.6 to CUCM 11.
Scenario:
1. There are 3 Servers in a cluster currently running CUCM 8.6 and the client wants to upgrade the CUCM to version 11 using BE7K.
This is my procedure:
1. Backup old CUCM 8.6
2. Install a new Test CUCM 8.6 server (the same version to old CUCM) using BE7K
3. Upgrade Test CUCM 8.6 server to CUCM 11 and perform a system backup
4. Install a new CUCM 11 server
5. Restore the system backup (from Test CUCM 8.6 server) to the new CUCM 11 server
6. Check if everything is okay after restoring to the new CUCM 11 server.
Note: The old CUCM 8.6 servers will be remain running because there are users (Call Center Agents) that are using this servers.
Best Regards,
Arvie

Yeah, that should work, or you can simply use PCD for that, assuming you meet the requirements.

Do I need to reset the security certificate per phone in order for the phones to register to CUCM 11?

There are far easier methods than doing one phone at a time

This is necessary when migrating from an mcs to a ucs without change the ip address of the cucm?

The CUCM 11 Ip address will be replaced because we will retain the old CUCM 8.6.

Hi Arvie,
You should follow the "Network Migration" procedure as mentioned in the PCD admin guide.

The steps look absolutely good and you can even skip step # 4 if it is just about installing CUCM v11 from a perspective that it should match the hardware specs as per OVA requirement. As you can change all the H/W specs except HDD hence if HDD in existing virtual machine i.e., 8.6 which you will install on BE7K will be as per v11 then you can simply increase the other H/W such as RAM, CPU, even you change OS version on the existing VM itself without a rebuild even.
However, rebuilding the VM again with v11 OVA and then performing a restore is definitely a much better idea if you have the time bandwidth there and you are willing to do that one extra step.
