Do I really need WAAS on my DC ?

Hi All,

I am wondering about getting WAAS on my data center, is it really needed or not ?

the reason is beginning on WAAS ver 6 with Akamai Connect, it can accelerate HTTPS on single side deployment (branch only).

So far as I know, you use dual-sided deployment to accelerate HTTPS traffic, but now in ver 6 single sided is supported.

So back to my question, Do i really need WAAS on DC ?

Thanks,

WAAS is really only needed if you have a shortage of bandwidth.  Do you have a shortage?

Hi Muhammed,

It depends on what you are trying to optimize. If your main goal is http/https optimization/caching then WAAS with Akamai connect can be deployed single sided.  HTTP caching is already supported as of WAAS version 5.4. Single sided HTTPs caching is available in WAAS 6.2.

With single sided sided deployment you can cache http/s content, http videos, Apple IOS downloads, Windows updates and so on.

If you need to optimize intranet applications like MS office, Citrix, Sharepoint, Backup software ...etc then a dual solution is required.

Regards,

Mohamed Hassan
