difference between the operational status of APs UP and REG (registered)

i want to know what the difference between the operational status of APs UP and REG ??

Operational status of a radio is up/down.  REG on the access point means that the ap has successfully joined the controller.  The AP has to be in the REG (register) status before the radios show UP.
