This error message will always appear when the USB thumb drive inserted does NOT follow the Type 2 standard that Cisco follows.

Try different variety of USB thumb drives because not all USB thumb drives are supported.

Hi,

Thanks a lot .

We will try with different variety of USB and update..

hello, may i know your problem solved or not when you use SanDisk 8 GB ?

what comes in type 2 standard ? As far as i know, any FAT or FAT32 usb should detect.

what does below log mean as :

For anyone else out there having this issue: The drive needs to be formatted as FAT (a.k.a FAT16).

FAT can only be used on partitions of up to 4GB so if you have a flashdrive larger than that, you'll need to use diskpart (or your preferred partition software) to create a partition of max 4GB. Then you will be able to format that partition as FAT and the router will recognise it.

These are the diskpart commands on Windows. THIS WILL WIPE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB PENDRIVE:

diskpart
list disk
select disk <INDEX OF USB DISK>
clean
create part primary size=4000
active

Done! Now you can use Windows Explorer to format the drive as FAT.

Cheers!

Hello

Have you also tried formatting it from the router or from a computer but use fat16, I have found sometimes this allows the USB to be used

I had the issue too.

1. change the format for FAT32 to other options. this will delete all the files you have in there make sure you backup ur files.

2. Plug to the USB port on the switch/router > type dir usbflash0: (it should show you no files in directory )

3. Unplug from the switch/router then format it again to the default settings which will be FAT32. > Add ur files again.

4. plug back to the switch/router and it should work now by typing < dir usbflash0: > let me know if it helps.
