SX10N with LG TV Proximity does not work

Hello,

We recently installed two SX10N units with different LG Smart TV at different locations and the Audio test fails on both.

The proximity feature is turned on but it does not work. The SX10N reports that there is audio delay on the TV side and suggests we change it to a low latency "game mode". I have done this in both cases and it does not work.

Question:

1) The SX10N has a built in speaker. As the speaker is for the Proximity Pairing, why is the TV speaker involved in this?

2) Is Cisco working on a fix with LG on this issue? Buying new TV's is an expensive Fix.

3) Is there any way to disable the pairing on the TV speaker and just have it enabled on the SX10N speaker?

Thank you. Jordan

Hi Jordan,

As you correctly indicate in 1), the SX10N has an internal speaker that is used for proximity pairing. The SX10N does not emit a pairing signal over HDMI, so the characteristics of the TV should not influence Proximity in your setup.

Could there by any chance be other ultrasound-emitting devices in the same room? E.g. a motion sensor?

The 'audio delay' diagnostic is unrelated to Proximity pairing. This particular diagnostic suggests that the measured latency for audio over HDMI and via the TV speakers is high - this impacts end-to-end delay when in a call, which may be perceived negatively by users. In extreme cases it could also affect echo cancellation.

Best regards,

Stian

It may be a silly question, but do you meet all the other requirements for using proximity?  ie, is your client device on a network that has IP access to the SX10 endpoint?

The ultrasound beacon is essentially only used to see if the client device is in the same room (and tells it which endpoint to talk to), then the rest of the communication is done over the IP network.

A quick way to test this is to try to bring up the web interface of the SX10 on your client device.
