Need advice on migrating from one ASA5505 to a new one

Hi all,

Forgive me if this is a silly question.  I used to be decent with Cisco gear but haven't really touched it much in the last 12 years.  Recently I have had to get my hands dirty again.

One of my remote offices has an ASA5505 that is on it's way out.  I want to switch them to a new ASA5505.  I used ASDM to backup the config on the existing device.  Can I just restore it to the new one?

Thanks!

Yes, you can restore the config on the new device of the same type. But you should think about buying a 5506-X instead of the 5505. The 5505 is approaching EOL and is technologically outdated. This device should not be bought any more today.

Restoring the config will be slightly harder as the 5506 doesn't yet use the concept of switchports. That means that you have to convert the config before restoring it.
