VSM oversubscription

Hi everyone!

I have the critical status of the software on the one of VSM servers. I checked the logs, and there was an error "recorder_oversubscribed". In the groom logs presents errors related to oversubscription. When i checked status of the repository /media1 i found that the drive indicate the 95% usage. At the same time repository /media2 used only 23% of the free space. As i understood correctly i must make a balance between those drives with some script. But i didn't found any scripts which can help me without lost any data. Can anybody help with this issue?
VSM version 7.2 and RAID-6 configuration with 12 drives.

You are correct.  In VSMs current model, whenever a stream recording is started, it's assigned one of the available media repositories registered to the system, and that's where *it stays* regardless of how imbalanced the storage across repositories becomes.

The only non-destructive solution I've seen to this problem involves intelligently and _manually_ selecting which recordings you'd like to reassign to alternate media repositories using the Cisco created support script 'chloc.sh'.  This script updates the backend VSMS database for an individual recording and instructs it to accrue *new* recordings in an alternate disk repository.  This means that you *won't* immediately see dramatic storage changes.  The bulk of the video data will shift /over time/ as new data is accumulated in the new location, while being "organically" (gradually) groomed away from the original location.

If it's a possibility, you ABSOLUTELY should open a TAC support case to get official support assistance for this issue.  They can provide you with the shell script mentioned above. 

If this is NOT an option, I could describe the process required to accomplish what you need, but I do NOT represent Cisco and all actions would be AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Hi Scott!

Thanks for your explaination of the situation. Because of your comment, i have another way for resolve the problem. I'm just replaced the cameras between other media servers. At this point, new cameras on the issued server placed to the /media2 repository.

But anyway, would be nice to see your script for replacing cameras via terminal.
