IR829: Get IP address on WAN port via DHCP from Cable Modem

Hi,

I have IR829, and I recently put a GLC-T compatible SFP to GBE adapter into the WAN / GE0 port.

The problem I'm having is either the adapter doesn't work, I don't understand how to correctly turn on the WAN port.

The modem I have is assigning an IP address dynamically, via DHCP.

What do I need to do to turn on the WAN port and configure it receive its IP address via DHCP from the modem?

Another thing I tried is to start the DHCP service and get the address pool of 192.168.2.0/24, with .200 to .254 reserved.

When I use GE1 port, and connect my netgear router into it, which is getting the ip from the modem, then the IR829 seems to act as a switch, and a node, and the computer I have connected onto the GE2 port is actually on the 192.168.1.0/24 network, and so is the router.

This is very surprising and confusing.

Is it even possible to do what I am trying with this model?
