Greetings, I am trying to configure an ME1200 right out of the box, and some of the most basic commands do not work. For instance when I type in show run I get an error message command not permitted. If I type a question mark I get the following:

This is the XML command set. I do not want to use the ZTP (Zero Touch Provisioning) or 920 as a controller. I have other ME1200's in the field acting as standalone switches and they display a normal range of the subset of IOS commands.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks

Hello,

have you tried to restore factory defaults, either through the WebGUI, or the procedure below ?

Restoring factory default can also be performed by making a physical loopback between port 1 and port 2 within the first minute from switch reboot. In the first minute after boot, 'loopback' packets will be transmitted at port 1. If a 'loopback' packet is received at port 2 the switch will do a restore to default.

I am having the exact same issue and the loopback approach to reset to factory default is not working. during startup it states loopback ....Not-tested. Any ideas?

Dustiin,

are you logged in as admin ?

Check the first page of Chapter 1 in the attached configuration guide:

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/metro/me1200/icli/configuration/guide/me1200-iCLI-config-guide.pdf

Yes, I logged in as admin and tried "reload defaults" and I get a command is not permitted.

Hello,

do you get the hash mark as prompt:

# reload defaults

Yes :

# reload defaults

% Command not permitted.

Which commands do you see ? The same as in the original post ? What if you 'exit' or 'logout'  and log back in as admin ?

No that doesnt work.

I can get regular ios commands if i enter

# v i v

#v i e

however, if i reboot it, it goes back to the ztp state

Hello,

what regular ios commands do you see? Can you 'conf t' to get into configuration mode ?

yes, once i get there, the ios commands seem pretty standard

Sorry for asking stupid question, but I am not sure I am following. You only need to reboot once to get to the factory values.

Are you saying that once you configure the device, save the config to NVRAM, and then reboot, everything is gone ?

Yes. So i get it switched to wear I can run ios style commands, do a copy-run to startup, then reboot. Config is gone and I am back to ztp mode.

Hello,

after you issue a 'copy running-config startup-config' do you see something like this on your screen:

Building configuration...
% Saving 1326 bytes to flash:startup-config

What is the content of the flash after you save the config ?

Switch#dir

switch# copy running-config startup-config
Building configuration...
% Saving 1792 bytes to flash:startup-config
switch# dir
Directory of flash:
    r- 1970-01-01 00:00:00     1240 default-config
    rw 1970-01-01 17:01:02     1792 startup-config
2 files, 3032 bytes total.
switch#

Should I delete the default-config ?
