Link failure loss of signal and port is down in CIsco MDS 9706 SAN Switch

Hi All

In Cisco MDS we got link failure and some ports are down and its associated with IBM AIX server.

As apart of troubleshooting, we reseated the cables and plugged properly.

Note: SFPs are new

In syslogs i notified link failures and the port is down.

From server side , user is unable to login and they raised a call with IBM and they confirmed issue with NIC.

Both NICs gone at the same time. They are replacing NICs.

AIX model number 8233-E8B

How NIC is related to Cisco MDS?

And confirm whether it will solve the issue.

Please let me know the troubleshooting steps.

Greetings.

It sounds like maybe  the server had a dual FC port HBA, that went out.

When the HBA went "out", the dual ports went down with link down state.

The NIC/HBA is related, in that it provides the other side of the connection required to bring up the link on each FC port.

Once the HBA is replaced, confirm the SFPs are plugged back in, the fiber pair is correctly plugged into each end of the SFPs, and you may need to 'no shut' the MDS FC ports.

Thanks,

Kirk..
