Solved: Router for 5 internet broadband connections

Hello,

At the moment, we are using an Ubuntu machine to connect our intranet to the internet with 4 fibre broadband connections. 1 of them connect to one sub-network and the other 3 connects another sub-network using software load-balancing (and will probably add a fourth connection). With the connections to the internal switches, now we have 9 ethernet connections (using a layer 3 switch, we expect to reduce it to 5 or 6)

We want to change this computer with a router, but aren´t sure if this config can be ported to a 1941 model, using one EHWIC card and several SVI to mimic it. Also, we need support for site2site Ikev2 tunneling protocol, but I think that it is supported since IOS 15.1.1T.

Any help is appreciated.

If you can get a 1941, that should be fine.

2901 does not support switch modules but 2911 supports one module (24 ports). Also, for routed ports, the 2911 comes with 3 10/100/1000 routed ports but 1941 comes with 2.

It appears that 1900 has reached end-of life and end-of- sale support.

I would look at the 2900 series. A 2911 router with an Ethernet module should be able to provide you the number of connections you need.

There is availability of 1941 model in a local supplier. I´ve just checked and also has 2901 and 2911 models. Why should I choose 2911? Any of them give us enough ports. 24 ports looks overkill, but if it has other advantages, it is an option.

I also guess that is better to use routed ports than SVI, but If the funcionality is the same, it is enough.

What do you think?

Yes, with any of them we would need to use SVI, so I will look for other differences than can make a difference in the future and let the boss decide.
