I am have one SG-300 switch with the following setup;

Layer 3

IP4 Routing is enabled

VLAN 20  192.168.2.100  255.255.255.0

Windows 7 workstation 192.168.2.150  255.255.255.0  Gateway: 192.168.2.100

VLAN 30  169.254.3.100  255.255.255.0

Windows 7 workstation 169.254.3.150  255.255.255.0, Gateway: 169.254.3.100

I can ping from the VLAN 30 wokstation to both 192.168.2.100 and 169.254.3.100

From the VLAN 20 workstation I can only ping 192.168.2.100

Niether workstation can ping each other.

All firewalls and Windows defender are are off and disabled.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Does the VLAN 20 workstation have a default-gateway configured?

Can you show the ipconfig output of both Windows 7 machine from MS-DOS?

Also, can you post the output of a tracert from the VLAN 30 workstation trying to ping the VLAN 20 workstation and viceversa?

Thanks for responding to my post.

The following is the information that you requested;

The VLAN 20 workstation does have a default gateway configured.

VLAN20 Workstation

#ipconfig

Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection Specific DNS Suffix:

IPv4 Address: 192.168.2.150

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.2.100

#tracert 169.254.3.150

Tracing route to 169.254.3.150 over maximum of 30 hops

1.  WkSubnet20 [192.168.2.150] reports: Destination host unreachable

Trace Complete

VLAN30 Workstation

#ipconfig

Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection Specific DNS Suffix:

IPv4 Address: 169.254.3.150

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 169.254.3.100

#tracert 192.168.2.150

Tracing route to 192.168.2.150 over maximum of 30 hops

1.  7ms     5ms     5ms     169.254.3.100

2.     *          *          *         Request timed out

3.     *          *          *         Request timed out

4.     *          *          *         Request timed out

5.     *          *          *         Request timed out

Strange that the VLAN 20 machine reports destination unreachable in the first attempt, I was expecting it to at least hit its default gateway (192.168.2.100) before any failure. Similar to the machine on VLAN 30.

Is this switch connected to the Internet?

Can you post the switch config?

OK, I believe I have resolved the issue.

The issue was directly related to using a 169.254.x.x address, non routable IP range, for the one VLAN.

I won't get into the reason why I was using that address range but once I changed it, all inter-VLAN routing was working without issue.

Thanks again for the help!

Sweet. Glad to hear.

I was suspecting that being the cause, hence the reason I asked if the switch was connected to the Internet. Probably conflicting with another host. 169.254.x.x is routable on the Internet.

Disconnecting from the Internet and re-trying the pings should work.
